In brief: Pentair Amerlite incandescent light, 500 W, 120 V, with a stainless steel face ring and an 8.375-inch tempered glass prismatic lens. Built-in thermal cut-off for low water levels. UL and CSA listed. Pentair part number 78458100.
A like-for-like replacement for an incandescent light
For an in-ground pool equipped with a traditional niche, the Amerlite remains a direct replacement. It fits existing Pentair, American, PacFab, and Purex niches without any structural modifications.
Its stainless steel construction and tempered glass prismatic lens account for its long service life. The built-in thermal cut-off protects the fixture if the water level drops below the lens, a situation that would otherwise destroy it.
It's the right choice when the niche is already in place and an LED conversion isn't in the plans.

Two important clarifications
On cord length. The 50-foot cord associated with this item is not confirmed by Pentair's official documentation. The Amerlite is available with several cord lengths. Please confirm the exact length with us before ordering.
On lumens. Pentair does not publish a lumen value for the Amerlite. We therefore don't list one.
Frequently asked questions
Do you really need 18 inches of water above the lens?
Yes, this is a requirement in the Pentair manual, not just a formality. A 500 W lamp generates considerable heat; the water above the lens dissipates it. The thermal cut-off is there precisely because low water levels are dangerous.
Is it worth switching to LED?
In terms of power consumption, the difference is significant: 500 W versus 15 W for a GloBrite. However, if you have a traditional niche, the conversion requires an LED light in the corresponding format. We can assess which lights your niche will accept.
How long does a bulb last?
An incandescent pool bulb burns out after a few hundred hours, compared with several thousand hours for an LED. That's the main argument for converting.
Is a GFCI-protected circuit required?
Yes, Pentair requires one, as does the electrical code. Never operate pool lighting on an unprotected circuit.
Installation on the North Shore
Piscines Geyser sells and installs Pentair lighting in Blainville and the Laurentians. Electrical installation must be carried out by an electrician; we coordinate the work.
