Salt chlorination, without daily handling
A salt generator produces chlorine directly in the return line from salt dissolved in the water. The chlorine acts, recombines, and becomes salt again: the cycle is closed. What changes on a daily basis is that there are no more tablets to dose, no more containers to store, and no more chlorine spikes after an unevenly distributed shock treatment.
The IntelliChlor is Pentair's most widely available range. The IC15 is the compact model, sized for pools up to 15,000 gallons and hot tubs.

A clarification on this part number
The 522109 is the Canadian version of the IntelliChlor IC15. Pentair describes it as such in its model chart, and not as a different configuration from the US IC15. The US and Canadian pair for the range is as follows: IC15 = 520888 / 522109, IC40 = 520555 / 520912, PC100 power center = 520556 / 520910.
LED display and not digital
Unlike the iChlor models, which have a digital display, the IntelliChlor IC15 indicates production with five LEDs corresponding to 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%. Distinct lights indicate the salt level, cold water, cell status, and flow.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference with the iChlor 15?
Both treat 15,000 gallons and produce approximately 0.6 lb of chlorine per day. The iChlor 15 has a digital display and more accurate salt probes (± 300 ppm versus ± 500 ppm). The IntelliChlor IC15 tolerates higher pressure (75 psi versus 50 psi) and carries the UL 1081 and NSF certifications. The two are not interchangeable: cells and power blocks differ.
What salt level to aim for?
3400 ppm is the optimal point according to Pentair, in an ideal range of 3000 to 4500 ppm. The device stops producing below 2600 ppm and signals an excess above 4500 ppm.
Does it work at the beginning of the season?
Below 52 °F (11 °C), the device shuts down to protect the cell. When opening and closing the pool in Quebec, plan for a chlorine top-up.
Is a GFCI outlet required?
Yes. Pentair requires a ground fault circuit interrupter protected outlet and a 20 A bipolar protection device at the panel.
How much straight pipe before the cell?
From 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm) upstream, so that the flow and salt sensors read correctly.
