The large size of the Sand Dollar line
With 3.15 sq. ft. of filtration area and a 70 GPM flow rate, the SD70 is the model suitable for inground pools equipped with a powerful pump.
The advantage of a large filter is not clearer water in the immediate moment: it is a longer interval between backwashes, which means less water wasted, fewer chemicals to add, and less resistance imposed on the pump.
The one-piece molded thermoplastic tank and the combined water and sand drain simplify media replacement.

On the part number. 145367 is indeed on Pentair's official list of Sand Dollar SKUs. However, the specific association with the SD70 model comes from distributors and not from an official manufacturer table. The specifications above are those of the SD70 as published by Pentair.
On maximum pressure. Pentair does not publish a maximum operating pressure for the Sand Dollar line. Please refer to your filter's data plate.

How much sand?
300 lb of #20 silica sand, which is six 50 lb bags, with a grain size of 0.45 to 0.55 mm. Check the capacity on the data plate.
Is the SD70 suitable for a variable speed pump?
Yes, it is actually a good combination. The pump filters at low speed, under 70 GPM, and only goes to maximum for backwashing, when high flow is required.
When should the sand be replaced?
Every five to seven years for residential use in Quebec. The sign: the filter no longer returns to its starting pressure after a backwash.
