The part you replace when you replace the liner
The inlet fitting goes through the wall and clamps the liner between two pieces. After fifteen or twenty years, the plastic is worn out and the gasket has hardened.
Installing a new liner with old fittings risks a leak behind the wall, where it can't be seen and where it washes away the base sand. A fitting costs a fraction of what it costs to reopen a wall.
That's why they're sold in pairs: you never replace just one return fitting.
