Does your heat pump run constantly and never reach the set temperature?
This is the classic symptom of an undersized heat pump. It produces less heat than the pool loses overnight, so it never catches up. The result is an electricity bill for water that stays cool.
The Hayward HeatPro MCHX 140,000 BTU is the largest model in the lineup. Its microchannel heat exchanger, a first in the pool industry according to Hayward, offers a denser heat-exchange surface for better heat transfer.

Choosing the right size
The 140,000 BTU model is suited to large inground pools and pools exposed to wind, which lose heat quickly. A solar cover greatly reduces the heating load: with a cover, a pool may only need the 110,000 BTU model where the 140,000 BTU model would be needed without one.
Frequently asked questions
What electrical rating is required?
A maximum 50 A breaker at 220/240 V, on a dedicated circuit installed by a licensed electrician.
Does the 140,000 BTU model heat faster than the 110,000 BTU model?
Yes, for the same pool. It’s not just about speed: a correctly sized heat pump reaches its set temperature and shuts off, while an undersized one runs continuously.
What clearances should I allow for?
12 in. on the sides and rear, 72 in. above.
