You can only use your above-ground pool for three weeks each summer and you’d finally like to enjoy it more?
Above-ground pools have a high surface-area-to-volume ratio: they heat up quickly in the sun and cool down just as quickly at night. Without added heat, the water temperature follows the weather, which in Quebec means chilly water for half the season.
The Hayward H-Series 135,000 BTU natural gas heater is designed specifically for above-ground pools. Unlike a heat pump, it raises the temperature quickly, regardless of the weather. Hayward highlights its top-tier hydraulic performance and durable, environmentally friendly design.

Gas or heat pump
Gas costs more to run, but it heats quickly. It’s the right choice if you use your pool occasionally, want to raise the temperature by a few degrees for the weekend, or extend the season into September, when a heat pump loses efficiency. In an above-ground pool, with its smaller water volume, gas brings the water up to the set temperature very quickly.
Frequently asked questions
Is this model suitable for an in-ground pool?
Hayward classifies the H135FDN for above-ground pools. For an in-ground pool, look at the Universal H-Series range, starting at 150,000 BTU.
What electrical supply does it need?
120 V only, 5.5 A, on a circuit breaker rated for a maximum of 15 A. This is much simpler than a heat pump, which requires 240 V.
Can I install it myself?
No. The gas connection must be installed by a qualified professional, with a properly sized gas supply and compliant venting.
Natural gas or propane?
This model runs on natural gas. The propane version is model W3H135FDP. These units cannot be interchanged without a conversion kit.
