Are you hauling buckets of chlorine every week for an above-ground pool?
With an above-ground pool, the water volume is smaller, so chlorine levels fluctuate more quickly. You add chlorine, the level gets too high, then drops again in two days. In between, the water isn’t protected, and chloramines form—the ones that sting your eyes and leave an odor on your swimsuit.
The Hayward AquaTrol is a salt system designed for above-ground pools. It continuously produces chlorine from dissolved salt, keeping the level stable. This version comes with a return jet fitting suited to above-ground installations.

What changes day to day
The water feels softer, the chlorine smell almost disappears, and you go from a weekly chore to just a few bags of salt per season. You still need to test the water and adjust the pH: salt replaces adding chlorine, not pool maintenance.
Frequently asked questions
Can my liner withstand salt water?
Most newer liners can. It’s unprotected metal parts you need to keep an eye on. Send us a photo of your setup and tell us how old your pool is, and we’ll give you an honest answer.
Does salt evaporate?
No. You add it when you open the pool, then only to make up for losses from splashing, backwashing, and heavy rain.
Can the cell be replaced?
Yes, and we keep AquaTrol replacement cells and circuit boards in stock. Your system will still be repairable through us five years from now.
