Do you have red eyes, tight-feeling skin, and a lingering chlorine smell on your swimsuit?
These aren’t symptoms of too much chlorine, but of chloramines: chlorine that has combined with organic matter brought in by swimmers. With manual dosing, chlorine levels rise and fall like a roller coaster between treatments, and chloramines form during the dips.
The Hayward AquaRite continuously produces chlorine from the salt dissolved in the water. Levels stay stable, chloramines don’t have time to build up, and the water feels noticeably gentler: it doesn’t irritate your eyes, dry out your skin, or fade fabrics.

One tip that makes all the difference: choose a size larger than your pool requires
A cell sized right at the limit has to run at full capacity all summer and wears out in three or four seasons. The same pool equipped with the next size up runs at 50 or 60 percent capacity, and the cell lasts much longer. The difference in purchase price pays for itself the first time you avoid a replacement.
Frequently asked questions
What salt level should I maintain?
Between 2,400 and 3,400 ppm. That’s about ten times less salty than seawater, and well below the level at which you can taste it.
Does this mean I don’t have to do anything else?
No. Salt replaces the need to add chlorine, not pool maintenance. You still need to test the water, adjust the pH and alkalinity, and occasionally shock the pool.
How much salt do I need to add each season?
Salt doesn’t evaporate. You add it when you open the pool, then top it up to make up for losses from splashing, backwashing, and heavy rain.
Will salt damage the liner or concrete?
Not at 2,400–3,400 ppm. However, you should keep an eye on unprotected metal parts and maintain the correct pH. Talk to us about your setup before converting.
